ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a framework writers can use to perform three specific actions: planning, researching, and citing. Thereby, readers will think about the impact that technologies have on their actions and the impact writers’ actions have on technologies. To demonstrate how such framework operates and to highlight the actions writers take when writing, readers will look at an example of writing as it moved through the planning, research, and citation stages. As they do, readers will learn suggestions for planning their writing, from brainstorming to understanding an audience, and for citing their research, from understanding copyright and copyleft policies to keeping track of sources. This chapter also features discussion questions, activities, and assignments about building a research toolbox, conducting surveys, interviews, and focus groups, and analyzing sources for credibility.
