ABSTRACT

Writing is a process that involves drafting, testing, revising, and editing texts, and this chapter considers the roles technologies play in this process. Throughout history, people have used a number of technologies to produce drawings and sketches as a way to draft out texts. In drafting, people can capture ideas, develop plans, and work out problems. However, drawing and sketching are but a few ways in which writers draft. Therefore, in this chapter, in addition to drawing and sketching, readers will consider many other ways in which writers can draft, giving them an opportunity to determine which is best for them and to show them that drafting provides a means to test out ideas and work on revising and editing. At the end, readers will also find suggestions for closely editing different types of texts, from texts based on words, to texts based on visuals, to texts based on sounds.
