ABSTRACT

Type 2 diabetes has been causally linked to impairment of sensory and sensorimotor function: It damages retinal blood vessel endothelium, and cell mitochondria; it is causally implicated in cornea disease, retinal detachment, retinopathy, and cataract formation. Chronic hyperglycemia is likewise implicated in the etiology of neuropathy, and certain types of hearing impairments.
