ABSTRACT
The Commandant must understand Colonial Society, for it is always with him. The smallest cercle in the bush numbers at least a few Europeans, enough to embody Colonial Society. Even if the Commandant were completely alone, he would still be responsible to a headquarters where Colonial Society rules.
