ABSTRACT

This chapter of the book presents the conclusions of the research carried out. The results of the research are combined with elements present in the literature review, deepening the analysis that led to the construction of this political economy of sport mega events. Thus, the relationship between global capitalism and sport mega events, the more specific look given at sport mega events and the 2014 World Cup (macro dimension), and the perceptions of residents of areas affected by works related to the 2014 World Cup in the city of Porto Alegre (micro dimension) are brought together here, giving emphasis to analytical syntheses but also to recommendations. Such recommendations address populations of countries and cities that may host mega events and communities that may be affected by works related to such events in the near future and even those who were affected by more recent editions. However, the recommendations can also serve as a guide to any social actors who choose to act in a way that does not impose unnecessary suffering on local populations and communities affected by works related to sport mega events.
