ABSTRACT
Word order is an important aspect of language, and in Italian it is particularly flexible compared to English. As has been shown in previous chapters, changes in the Italian word order often express shifts of meaning and emphasis which are differently conveyed in English (for example by different tone of voice, inflection and stress). This chapter highlights the most characteristic differences between Italian and English word order, and aims to remind the learner of the main areas of divergence.
