ABSTRACT

The chapter looks into the missing gender dimensions of agrarian change in the context of neoliberal reforms. Based on available data furnished by census, NSSO, and Agricultural Census and village-level analysis, an attempt is made to study the nature and extent of participation of women in the agricultural and rural workforce, changes in their wages and earnings, and access to land in Maharashtra. The analysis in the chapter relates to the wider debate on gendered implications of agrarian change led by political economists, reformists, and gender analysts.
