ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the reliability analysis of the reinforced concrete column. The structural reliability is the reverse meaning for structural probability of failure. Reliability analysis of structures implies estimation of the limit state probabilities of a structure under the environmental load affecting the building during its service life. The three-dimensional structure analysis will be performed to determine the straining actions at the column base. The ultimate strength of the reinforced concrete column is calculated and, based on that, one can formulate the limit state equation of the reinforced concrete column. The probability of failure of the structure designed with this spectrum is the exceedance probability of the response spectrum ordinate being used for the design. The equivalent normal distribution for a non-normal variant may be obtained that the cumulative probability as well as the probability density ordinate of the equivalent normal distribution is equal to those of the corresponding non-normal distribution at the appropriate point on the failure surface.
