ABSTRACT

The pattem of land tenure and ownership in Bulgaria has been complicated by the country's political history. This is particularly true in the case of South Dobrudja. Within the complex web of inter-related phenomena that affect or are affected by current developments, this paper specifically considers the important factors in the history of land tenure, the current situation of land reform, together with their implications on one of the most important agricultural areas of Bulgaria. Whereas the conditions in Dobrudja are slightly different to the general picture of the country, there are a number of useful conclusions that might be drawn from the experiences of this region.
