ABSTRACT

Although this statement is certainly justified, the opposite is equally arguable, i.e. many of the guiding themes of regional planning over the last years for prevention, have only now been taken up by other disciplines under the heading of sustainability and have thus been 're-thought'. So much is certain, that in the interdisciplinary discussion initiated by the issue of sustainable development, spatial planning cannot remain at the fence. It should, however, play a central role as a mediator between the abstract programme of sustainable development, on the one hand, and the concrete instructions for spatial actors on the other. The link between sustainability and regional planning is a goal-means-relationship.
