ABSTRACT

The diagram also shows that, in a small business, management, and thus strategy, covers all functions and co-ordinates them very closely. This is explained by the personality and training of the owner-manager (the player) and is conditioned by the type of organizational system in which the company operates (the organization). The diagram also shows that small businesses exist in symbiosis with their environment, in a system of complex interrelations formed by networks of all kinds and all levels that develop within and outside the region, as we will see in the first few chapters. Such businesses are responsible for a large proportion of local and regional development and, in return, profit from that development.
