ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with intrapropositional relations. The propositional level is mainly accretive in so far as it contributes the constitutive parts that are going to make up the homologon. The interpropositional level is relational and so builds up these parts into an integrated whole. The chapter considers each separate paraphrastic level within each of the cumulative planes clearly classified in terms of propositional, extra propositional, and strategic relationships. The choice of the proposition as the working basis creates an evident distinction between intra- and interpropositional relationships. These segments can be redesigned into more logically defined planes of definition corresponding to clearly marked discontinuities in linguistic description. Thus, in addition to the propositional plane that corresponds to the basic working unit and concerns traditional linguistic determinations, we will consider the extra-propositional plane that describes the proposition's contextualization, and the strategic plane that places the proposition within the macro-structures of textual strategies.
