ABSTRACT

Chapter 7, “Origin and support of the anti-corruption effort: the stakeholders”, describes social groups and international organizations—both explicit and implicit—engaged in the Authority’s activities, including the actual creation of the anti-corruption effort. This chapter shows an example of how countries and governments develop an anti-corruption initiative in the first place. It takes account of the stakeholders of anti-corruption activity and examines the sources of demand for good government—something that has not attracted authors’ attention thus far. Included among these stakeholders are critics of the anti-corruption effort. Stakeholders also include the international and supranational bodies that put pressure on national governments and contribute comparative theory and practice.
