ABSTRACT
Negative words in Thai are (a) mâi (‘not, no’), widely used in negative sentences and negative responses to questions; (b) mí, a variant of mâi; (c) yàh (‘don't’) and (d) hâhm (‘to forbid’), both used in negative commands and prohibitions; (e) bplào: (‘no’), a negative response, which contradicts the assumption in the question, and (f) yung (‘not yet’), used only as a negative response to … réu yung? questions (12.1.6).
