ABSTRACT

Taking the form of a reflective autobiography, this chapter explores one person’s journey in doing philosophy in schools. From an early interest in big questions and exposure to philosophy at university, Sprod traces his path from his first encounter with Philosophy for Children (P4C), though teaching it, developing and publishing materials, and academic research and theorising. Throughout, he explores the theoretical and practical implications he has drawn from his experience, notably on whether P4C ought to stand alone or be integrated into school subjects (or both), and the places of pedagogical and philosophical expertise in teacher training.
