ABSTRACT
Estonia, one of the Baltic States, gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and very quickly carried out monetary and fiscal reforms and established rights to private ownership. The country has a land area of approximately 45,200 square kilometres and a population in the region of 1.46 million. Tallinn is the capital city and has a resident population of 440,000.
