ABSTRACT

Speech and Language can be looked upon from different viewpoints. These are the physical aspect; the neuro-physiological aspect; the biological aspect; the philological aspect; the psychological aspect; the artistic aspect. The psychologist acknowledges speech as a means of expression of our thoughts, emotions, etc. Philology may be said to start where biology stops. It deals with the nature and evolution of speech from the time when it acquired a degree of specialisation and differentiation of sounds which are codified in the languages of peoples. Language creates new words whenever the speakers are in need of them, so that the growth of language is marked by the appearance of neologisms. Once they are established they tyrannise over our minds in such a way that older. There are no utterances, no languages, no kinds of speech, but only beings using certain kinds of communication, such as sounds, letters, gestures, gramophone records, etc., which ensure their sustenance and other needs.
