ABSTRACT

A 5-year-old girl presents to the emergency room with a cough for 3 weeks. She has not had any runny nose, congestion, fevers, vomiting, or diarrhea. She has no pain. She is still having good oral intake and normal urine output. Parents feel that the cough occurs all day without any factors that make it better or worse. No one is sick at home, but she does go to kindergarten. While talking about school, her parents do note that she doesn't seem to run around as much as the other children in class and wonder if she has asthma. They have never heard her wheeze. She is otherwise healthy without any hospitalizations. No family history of asthma.
