ABSTRACT

A 21-month-old boy presents to the emergency department with one month of cough. Coughing occurs during the day and night, and is non-productive. The family reports occasional post-tussive emesis of food products, but otherwise he has been eating normally. They also report that the child is often found trying to put objects in his mouth. The family does not recall any episodes of choking or gagging. There is no history of fever, weight loss, or ill contacts. There is no significant past medical history and the family history is non-contributory.
