ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses and interpretations about the results, or consequences, of the upheaval on all aspects of Chinese society, as well as evaluations of the success of the Cultural Revolution in terms of goals and objectives achieved. Analysis in the area of economics is concentrated on the effects of changes, such as decentralization in decision-making and management, de-emphasis on elitism in science and technology, and changes in the remuneration system, on production and future prospects for modernization. The impact of the Cultural Revolution on society is discussed, directly or indirectly, in most entries since all changes affect the social system. Particular attention is paid in these entries to the goals of the Cultural Revolution for a truly egalitarian Chinese communist society to be reflected in all institutions. The chapter also discusses the students of contemporary China will find the analyses and interpretations.
