ABSTRACT

Life below the water is encapsulated in one of the Sustainable Development Goals agreed to by 193 countries together with some great multinational enterprises at the United Nations in April 2015. In the Six Capitals approach of integrated thinking and “doing” an integrated report of the International Integrated Reporting Council one of the sources of value creation recognised is natural capital. The Natural Capital Protocol (NCP) provides a systematic, harmonized approach on how to identify measure and value natural capital, and inform business decisions. The pollution below the water and on our lands led to the establishment of the NCP, based on the premise that the natural capital that an organisation owns or for which it is responsible has a value both to the organisation and to society. Scientists have been reporting about the alarming rate at which species are becoming extinct due to pollution. The biggest challenge for humankind is the possible extinction of the bee population.
