ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book analyses contemporary art of women's storytelling. The stories discussed are accounts of journeys that stem from diverse experiences of mobility intended as a flexible and transitional, physical and emotional condition that entails changes and dissolves thresholds of genre, identity and space. The book argues that the entwining of writing with photography reveals a desire for narration through which female mobile subjectivities – shaped by forms and experiences of resistance, marginality and displacement–can be exposed. It discusses relationship between literature and photography and, in particular, on the ways in which women's writing can actively participate in visual processes. The book examines a selection of contemporary texts by women related to Italy and its culture through different types of relationships. It reveals some of the practices in which prose and photography perpetually engage with each other.
