Anxiety states rank second to depression as the most common psychiatric disorder. Anxiety itself is a normal, indeed useful feeling, as it alerts people to trouble, or motivates them into dealing with it. The reaction to stress and tension varies: instead of having anxiety attacks, a person may suddenly find himself unable to cope. Meditation and yoga are ways of lowering tension, basically through the use of relaxation and learning how to relax is obviously is important to those suffering from anxiety and tension. The use of biological feedback machines is another way of controlling tension. Physical exercises can also lower mental tension.
