ABSTRACT

Just-in-time (JIT) production, meaning a system for organising labour processes, is now common around the world. It has its origin in the Japanese automobile industry and in Toyota Motor Corporation in particular (Womack et al. 1990). This paper addresses the mechanisms in JIT-manufacturing related to logistics and location of subcontractors of OEM-parts that provide JIT-supply. The aim is to contribute with causal explanations of these relationships, which are methodologically inspired by Sayer (1992).
