ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights dynamics present today that affect Generation Z’s communication patterns. These include the prevalence of micro-conversations, role of visual communication, and evolving etiquette including when and where to engage in digital communication. Attention is also paid to the preferred communication methods of Generation Z, including their nuanced use of social media and other digital platforms. Topics such as their use of images to convey meaning and their declining use of communication methods such as phone and email are also discussed. In addition, this chapter offers insight into their preference for face-to-face communication and how their desire for in-person connection is affecting a generation living in a digital world.
