ABSTRACT
This chapter takes up some broader questions and challenges around technology assessment, which exceed the line of argumentation presented so far. These considerations include some prospective thoughts about the road ahead of technology assessment in thematic respects, as well as with regard to changes in its environment which consist of challenges and threats as well as opportunities. Some perspectives are discussed on developing technology assessment further into a global and intercultural assessment community (global technology assessment). Finally, the visionary and sometimes utopian dimension of technology assessment which lies behind its daily business – and is sometimes regarded as a kind of craft – will be made an explicit issue.
