ABSTRACT
Regional disparities in the European Union are expressed in many ways : population density, age structure, participation rates, production and income levels; or in terms of employment balance, migration balance, economic structure, consumption patterns, unemployment, etc. All these indicators except employment balance, emphasise one aspect of regional disparities, but are not necessarily indicators of unequal welfare systems.
