ABSTRACT

Lean is based on five basic principles that in their simplicity are called “The Five Lean Principles”. One of the central principles in Lean is continuous improvement. With the original Japanese expression, it is called Kaizen. An arable farmer had an analysis conducted on how to plan soil preparation before wheat seeding. A farmer had a piece of land that was very suitable for production of Christmas trees. It would also save him some machine replacements, which would otherwise have been necessary if he had continued grain production. In a vegetable production operation, the employees were annoyed because too many products were discarded by the buyer. They worked hard to do a good job and regretted that their product failed. At a dairy farm, making grass-silage is planned in detail to keep the same flow throughout the day.
