ABSTRACT

Emotional intelligence (EI) skills provide the worker with a keen sense of why they react as they do in certain situations, and shows greater compassion and understanding in accepting the behaviors of those with whom they interact. EI is a critical component of effective relationship management. Healthcare professionals recognize how vital it is to effectively communicate with their stakeholders on a variety of topics and in different settings. Effective communication skills are fundamental to success in many aspects of life. Both skills (communication and EI) are important soft leadership skills. Communication is the ability to communicate, while EI is the ability to work with different types of individuals who communicate in different ways. Two psychologists, John Mayer and Peter Salovey, offered the first formulation of the concept of EI. This is an even broader concept than the theory of self-awareness.
