ABSTRACT

Traditional leadership typically takes a top down approach. The President or CEO of an organization is responsible for the vision, mission, values and goals of the organization. Fluctuation in the US economy, increased global participation, litigation, competition, customer demands for service changes and employee participation are just a few of the areas marking the need for rethinking what leadership should look like. Effective leaders need to be seen, not only in their organizations but in their communities as well. Transformational leadership is a process where leaders and their team members raise each other to higher levels of excellence, morality and motivation. Most effective leaders look at their organizations and their communities in a holistic way. They practice servant leadership, operating with ethical judgment and sensitivity.
