ABSTRACT

The 1972 United Nations' Human Environment Conference in Stockholm highlighted a turning point in the environmental movement world-wide. Since then, the issue of environmental protection and sustainable development has become a central focus in public debates, in government policy/decision making, and in the conducting of organisational and individual behaviour, all over the world. Accordingly, environmental education and training has made remarkable progress, in the sense that it has increased public awareness and concern of environmental issues, translated such awareness and concern into conscious action, and made environmental protection an important criterion in decision making.
