ABSTRACT

One of the most exciting aspects of the multimedia market is its magnificent range, which appeals to a heterogeneous audience of individuals with divergent tastes. Accordingly, the tone of this profile is objective and descriptive, enabling readers to make their own informed choices. Naturally, opinions are offered, though these largely relate to quality of production and performance. Criteria for the selection of featured products are relatively loose; all of these products have received critical acclaim and are particularly suited to young users of multimedia. Single-subject reference is divided into the four core subjects of geography, history, science and the arts. Conventional books are frequently endowed with the status of endangered species in the face of multimedia; a status which, as Sue discovered, is inappropriate. However, when Sue mentions books, she is really talking about storybooks, as evidenced by her allusion to Blyton.
