ABSTRACT
Ferenczi wrote his paper, “Stages in the development of the senseof reality” (Ferenczi, 1913) just two years after Freud hadpublished his “Formulations on the two principles of psychic functioning” (Freud, 1911b), because he felt that Freud had not explained how the transition from the pleasure principle to the reality principle takes place during early infancy.
