ABSTRACT

In this chapter I attempt to describe the experience of being with Joshua, a psychotic boy who, when I first saw him for assessment, reminded me of some medieval painting of madness. His speech was unintelligible. He pulled at, and contorted his face and tried to stand on his head as if he genuinely did not know which way up he should be. His movements were compulsive and frenetic. The session to be presented is from the beginning of his third year of therapy, and shows work with a child emerging from psychosis.
