ABSTRACT

The next two giants of High Renaissance art to follow

Leonardo in the monumental traditions of the fi fteenth

century were Michelangelo (1475-1564) and Raphael

(1483-1520). Michelangelo produced his major early

works in Florence and Rome; Raphael’s were made in

Urbino, Perugia, and Florence. In both instances, the

artists gravitated primarily to Florence and Rome, which

were the major centers of patronage.
