ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses global warming that requires so much attention because the issues are very complex and are widely misunderstood. A changing climate will destabilize entire ecosystems, which will result in changes in vegetation and soil types. Water vapor is the most important greenhouse gas, but its level in the atmosphere is not being changed directly by our actions. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are extremely powerful greenhouse gases, and they are all produced by industry. A consequence of global warming that will have both positive and negative feedbacks is water vapor. A warming climate will enhance the hydrological cycle, causing more and greater weather extremes, in fact, it is generally the extreme events that will cause much more damage than the increase in the average temperature. The estimates of costs of global warming include a category for increased human mortality. Ocean ecosystems are also in danger.
