ABSTRACT

Margarita Robles de Mendoza, a tireless defender of the rights of women, was particularly active during the 1920s and 1930s. In this era, women increased their political and professional participation in Mexican life and rallied to pressure the federal government to fulfill promises made to them during the Revolution. Feminism is the name given to the modern movement that seeks to defend the individual, economic, social, and political rights of women. The movement seeks the vote only as a means to achieve economic or social goals; however this is never an obsessively exclusive goal. In the first half of the nineteenth century, Auguste Comte was of the opinion that women had to be raised up and educated fully, but he wanted to see women excluded from material responsibilities and kept from participation in public matters.
