ABSTRACT

In the center of mass frame, a baryon will have a thin flat shape: one that can be described within a two dimensional theory. This offers the possibility of solving one of the long-standing problems of particle physics: to explain the structure functions of hadrons as measured in Deep Inelastic Scattering. The point is that there is no physical meaning to the splitting of the quark distribution function into a valence and a sea quark contribution. The anti-quark distribution does in fact have a physical significance. The definition of a Sea quark distribution is thsu completely arbitrary and is not imposed by any symmetry such as charge conjugation invariance. A generation of phenemenologists have extracted the valance parton structure functions from the data.
