ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION Injury may be defined as physical harm or damage to the body resulting from an exchange of mechanical, chemical, thermal, or other environmental energy that exceeds the body’s tolerance. The terms injury and trauma are interchangeable. Commonly used major subdivisions of trauma deaths are homicide, suicide, and unintentional. The latter term is preferred to accidental, which implies that injuries occur by chance and cannot be prevented.
