ABSTRACT
The United States is rich in energy resources and energy industries contribute substantially to the national economy. With the economy of many states being dependent upon energy production, control over the national energy future is now determined as much by decisions made in foreign countries as they are by decisions made in Washington or any state capital. The accuracy of this concept can be established by reviewing the history of oil production and importation in the United States.
