ABSTRACT

I INTRODUCTION The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons has defined an orthosis as an external device applied to the body to restrict motion in that particular segment (1). Cervical orthoses are employed in a wide variety of situations in clinical practice; they can be used for symptomatic treatment of neck pain, postoperative immobilization after cervical surgery, definitive treatment after cervical trauma, and stabilization and extrication in the prehospital setting after injury. Their objective is to provide immobilization to the cervical spine.
