ABSTRACT

Diarrhea, one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints, is also one of the four most common infections in elderly residents of long-term care facilities (LTCFs). Nonspecific diarrhea is the most common type of diarrhea in the United States; however, it is anticipated that an increase in the number of specific infectious causes of diarrhea will be diagnosed with the development of newer diagnostic techniques (1).
