ABSTRACT
Latin America is a subcontinent with many countries with quite different geographical, climatic, health care, and economic conditions. The population is mainly young, but many of its countries have rapidly increasing older populations. Poverty is a generalized continental condition as a result of underdevelopment. Health care is generally deficient, mainly in pathologies regarded as not major causes of death.
