ABSTRACT

The entry addresses the needs of decision makers in the supply chain and the software tools available to them. A case, furniture maker Herman Miller, illustrates an ambitious transition for its supply chain. One guiding principal at Herman Miller was the use of Economic Value Added (EVA) in decision making. Herman Miller continues to employ the EVA discipline today. A table lists applications in nine software categories from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. The entry also describes supply chain “zones,” a structure that recognizes that there are natural breaks in the supply chain flow. Some readers may find this approach attractive.
