ABSTRACT

As a firm progresses with S&OP, it will likely establish multiple planning levels. The planning horizons can be set at short‐, medium‐, and long‐term. Updating the horizon can then be set at weekly, monthly, and quarterly intervals. In each designation, the team leader, team members, and those responsible for issue resolution should be established. For example, in the weekly short‐term horizon, the operations planning group leader can resolve issues, but the long‐term issues are best taken to the presidential level. A figure shows the responsibility of various functions for supporting each planning horizon.
