ABSTRACT

Few issues are as important to the success of the practicing spinal surgeon as the appropriate recognition and management of complications in his or her patients. In spite of the best quality of medical care, complications are an inevitable part of medical interventions. It is the goal of physicians to minimize the risk of complications and rapidly identify and treat complicationswhentheyoccur. Inmanycases, early recognitionandaggressivemanagement following a complication can significantly reduce the risk of long-term sequalae.
