Beginning with their initial introduction in the early 1800s, peppermint oil (Mentha piperita),

Scotch spearmint (Mentha gracilis), and Native spearmint (Mentha spicata) have become the

primary mint oils of commerce within the North American mint oil industry. Used principally

throughout the oral care, chewing gum, and confection industries, mint oils can be used

directly or as key components in mint flavor formulations.
