ABSTRACT

The trend of increasing asthma mortality and morbidity has fortunately reached a plateau over the past several years

and we now have an opportunity to see a decline in morbidity and mortality. Perhaps a more proactive approach that facilitates the identification of patients at risk for developing persistent asthma and effective interventions will be successful. It will also be important to identify methods to alter the natural history of asthma and long-term outcomes related to asthma.
