I. Introduction

Air is one of the basic elements essential for the survival and quality of life of

human being. There is no doubt that fresh, clean, and clear air is much more pre-

ferable to polluted air with dusts, burning smoke, harmful gases, and chemical

particles. However, the air that we breathe every day is not a single substance,

but a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases with

varying amounts of water vapor. The proportion in which they are present

differs from place to place (Fig. 8.1).
