ABSTRACT
Hippocrates has been credited with being the first (almost 2500 years ago) to note that strabismus tends to be inherited, remarking that ‘‘children of parents having distorted eyes squint also for the most part’’ (1,2). Because strabismus is easily noticed very early in life, parent-offspring comparisons may be readily made, strengthening the impression of an inherited entity.
